Ian Fowler, security consultant for SM&W’s UK office, was invited to act as a panel judge for the 13th annual SEA-2011 competition. Ian spent a few days and some late nights last week going over ninety five pages of entries and additional supporting material as one of three panels judging the eighteen SEA-2011 finalist entries. The awards are organized by United Business Media (UBM) who publishes a wide range of UK and EMEA magazines, e-magazines, information resources and editorials. UBM covers publishing titles such as Security Management Today (SMT Online), Info4Security, Building Design Online (BD-Online) and many more. UBM also organizes the annual IFSEC Exhibitions and Conferences held at the Birmingham NEC in May each year. The SEA-2011 finalists represent the best UK design, consulting, manufacturing, manpower and installation companies, contributors and personnel working in the UK and global security industry.
The eighteen sub-categories for SEA-2011 recognize the efforts of contributors to the industry, including personal and company achievements. The categories include security guarding, security installers, in-house and contract security managers, security consultants, integrated security solutions, international achievement, contribution to standards, as well as initiatives for security partnering, environmental and customer care, ACS, IT, and security training.
Ian commented, "I am honoured and proud to be involved with the Security Excellence Awards program. My fellow panellists are all interesting and extremely knowledgeable people in their fields and make for a stimulating series of debates and discussion during the panel sessions." Ian's fellow panellists this year include UK and international security industry leaders and representatives of institutions, associations and inspectorates such as ASIS, BSIA, and NSI. The remaining panellists represent a group of people working in security risk management for major institutions, insurance houses, and influencers in standards and working best practice. Others such as Ian are invited as respected long term industry commentators and recognised industry experts. This is Ian's second time as a panellist for the SEA. Ian has previously worked in practices and supporting businesses who were finalists and winners of previous SEA awards during his tenure with those companies.
The SEA-2011 finalists were announced on August 2nd 2011. The SEA-2011 awards will be presented at a prestigious gala ceremony at The Hilton, Park Lane, Mayfair, London on October 19th 2011. For further details of the award categories and finalists, please visit www.securityexcellenceawards.co.uk.
