SM&W Contribution
The first clinical building for Weill Cornell Medicine, the Ambulatory Care Facility provided space for imaging, gastroenterology, in vitro fertilization, valvular cardiopathology, lipids, cardiology, dermatology, initiative genome, comprehensive biomedicine, pain management and ophthalmology. The building also included an educational simulation center for Cornell University medical students.
Shen Milsom & Wilke acousticians isolated two 3.0 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging machines from surrounding spaces as well as offices, lecture halls and learning facilities from traffic noise. We analyzed the rooftop cooling towers to determine their impact on neighboring residential buildings and provided noise-control recommendations.
Our audiovisual team designed systems for the virtual room known as the CAVE, an immersive environment where students and researchers can interact with molecules, cells and organs. Images project on three walls and the floor from high-speed computers. The clinical skills simulation laboratory uses mannequins and interactive controls to simulate work sessions and record them for review and evaluation.
The information technology scope included an applications-independent structured cable plant that supports future growth and change. We provided both wired and wireless connectivity throughout the facility.
