SM&W Contribution
ISO New England runs competitive wholesale markets to balance their region’s daily electricity supply and demand. They do not actually buy or sell electricity: the power producers, utilities, and other energy providers do. Rather ISO NE administers and monitors the markets.
The Facility consists of a large control space, (shown on the right) as well as a simulation training room and conference or meeting spaces.
Shen Milsom & Wilke provided consulting services to assist ISO NE in selecting the appropriate technology based on their specific needs and requirements as well we assisted in a competitive bid process, award, and construction administration.
The control room is the significant feature of the facility and provides a view of the entire power grid for all of New England. The unique combination of specifically developed software for the display image is married to a specific display solution that provides an optimal view of the power grid for system operators. Our role was to assist ISO NE with evaluating a myriad of choices for the display system and developing a project plan and approach that would result in a fully tested and operational facility on the schedule required. The partnership between ISO management team and SM&W expertise resulted in an excellent project that performs extremely well for the control room functions.
SM&W also provided infrastructure and technology design services for a variety of other spaces and systems in this new facility and for the renovation of the older headquarters building.
