SM&W Contribution
MarketAxess recently renovated three floors of office space prominently located in the Hudson Yards development in NYC. The program for the new space included open workplace, open and closed meeting areas, a board room, and flexible spaces to hold events and town hall meetings. Our scope of work included facility recommendations for both audiovisual design and architectural acoustics.
Because MarketAxess is a highly dynamic office with diverse needs when it comes to the acoustical environment, SM&W’s focus included the challenge of maintaining acoustic privacy between offices and meeting rooms where the design elements include glass partitions and doors. Sound-absorptive treatments in conference rooms and boardrooms were carefully considered to meet teleconference requirements without disrupting the aesthetic intent. In addition, Skyfold partitions were recommended to divide the flexible spaces.
SM&W proposed a sound-masking system to help regulate background noise levels in open office areas. If implemented, it would contribute to an increased level of acoustic privacy between workstations.
