SM&W Contribution

Shen Milsom & Wilke provided acoustics, audiovisual, information technology, and security consulting expertise for an office and classroom renovation project at UIUC’s Armory Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) program. The CITL is dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and assessing teaching effectiveness and student learning by assisting faculty, academic units, and teaching assistants improve instruction.

The renovation also added labs with experimental computer stations where faculty and staff can meet 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 to test and experiment with new software systems. One of these labs also has an experimental station set up in an acoustically sound environment. This space required specialized acoustical separation and innovative solutions designed by our acoustics team. The educational project spaces include high, complex levels of flexible learning technologies as exemplified in the ‘Teaching Commons’ area; a very flexible space that serves as reception intake and meeting/workspace for a variety of interdisciplinary courses and programs.

Our audiovisual team also equipped the Center for Innovation’s classrooms with cutting edge learning technologies and immersive designs for demonstration and research purposes. Classroom space could potentially be divided to have one room provide an advanced teaching lab and the other could be set up for more hands-on technology. Table top monitors are provided to promote small group activities. These spaces will serve as a resource to campus faculty and staff and promote enhanced instructional opportunities.
