Shen Milsom & Wilke is seeking a talented Acoustic Consultant with 3-8 years of experience to join our San Francisco office. The Consultant will work on various high-profile projects, conducting field measurements, building acoustic computer models, and consulting on solutions to optimize acoustical performance and mitigate unwanted noise and vibration.

The ideal candidate would have experience in consulting and acoustical engineering, with an understanding of acoustic principles and real-world application of building and environmental acoustics. The candidate should also have expertise with sound and vibration test equipment and the ability to measure and analyze the impact of noise and vibration from interior and exterior sources. Responsibilities will include field noise and vibration measurements, data analysis, and evaluation. Design capabilities in numerous vertical markets, including education, healthcare, government, commercial, and hospitality, will be a valued asset, demonstrating the breadth of the role.

Project management experience, including multi-discipline coordination in an architectural design environment, is a plus. Essential qualities and experience include building on a solid client service and management heritage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide acoustical consulting in architectural & mechanical acoustics, audiovisual systems & environmental noise control, and vibration isolation projects.
  • Manage all aspects of your assigned projects and work closely with each discipline in project development from beginning to end, focusing on budget, scheduling, design, client and consultant communication and coordination.
  • Play an integral role in the systems implementation process, acting as the primary point of contact between the systems vendor, the project team, and the client to ensure a successful implementation
  • Interact with systems vendors to negotiate contract bids and awards.
  • Collect and analyze noise and vibration data. Perform calculations and site surveys/construction administration.
  • Development and design of project drawings in AutoCAD/BIM, EASE, and Sound Plan.
  • Play an integral role in the systems implementation process, acting as the primary point of contact between the systems vendor, the project team, and the client to ensure a successful implementation
  • Interact with systems vendors to negotiate contract bids and awards.
  • Up to 5-10% domestic and international travel may be required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, architectural acoustics, audio technology, or a similar degree with coursework in architectural acoustics.
  • 3+ years’ experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in developing relationships with staff and clients.
  • Client focus, with a commitment to quality and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM, EASE, and Sound Plan.
  • Competency in Microsoft Suite
  • Functional knowledge of the Bluebeam PDF tool
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite/Office 365
  • Project Management Certifications a plus.

Annual Salary Range: $70,000 – $95,000

The range listed is just one component of the total employee compensation package. Individual compensation decisions are based on several factors, including experience, level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.
