Located on Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, D.C., the Embassy of South Africa consists of two buildings linked by a two-story bridge: one building houses the South African Ambassador to the United States while the other contains office spaces for personnel. The focus of the modernization project was to not only update and upgrade the functionality of the growing embassy but to also add a design element that speaks toward South Africa’s transformation.
The total interior renovation included upgrading the entire IT infrastructure systems and providing security design criteria for the card access control system, the digital closed-circuit television system and the alarm monitoring and notification system. Acoustical design considerations were also implemented during the project to ensure privacy for specific spaces within the facility.
