SM&W Contribution

Shen Milsom & Wilke provided acoustics, audiovisual, information technology, and physical security consulting expertise for the expansion and renovation of the Kentucky International Convention Center. This LEED-NC Silver project increased functionality, market capture, competitiveness, and attendance at a wide variety of events to be held at convention center. The expansion and renovation created an architecturally significant statement in downtown Louisville, enhanced the overall pedestrian-oriented ambiance and became a more accessible and friendly destination. Additionally, the project improved a number of functional deficiencies to make the center more user-friendly, easier and more cost-effective to operate. The center includes over 200,000 SF of event and exhibit space, a 40,000 SF ballroom, a 175-seat conference theater and 52 meeting rooms.

It was important that the enlargement and renovation of the facility happen in an integrated fashion to minimize the distinction between new and existing portions. With larger exhibition, ballroom and meeting leasable areas, supplemented by the appropriate support spaces, there will be an increased number of people at events, more events, and more simultaneous events. SM&W used cutting edge AV technology and signal distribution methods to provide a fully flexible audiovisual system. Our solutions included AV over IP centralized video distribution and networked audio to allow AV signals to be routed anywhere in the building through a central network. This increases the flexibility of each space in the convention center allowing for not only flexible arrangements of individual rooms, but how multiple rooms can be used when combined.
