SM&W Contribution
Located prominently on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American History is home to over three million visitors each year, and it was open during the entire renovation effort. This renovation involved much of the major building systems: replacing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; upgrading fire and alarm systems; and improving electrical and security systems. Our scope of work began with documenting existing conditions, notably the IT cable plant and the acoustical performance of a number of the public spaces in the facility. Our audiovisual efforts centered around two areas: The electronic Star Spangled Banner exhibit and the building-wide paging systems.
