SM&W Contribution

The South San Francisco Wellness Center is a new health center and office building with 77,000 SF of space that will help the San Mateo County Health System provide patient care for county residents with limited access to health services. The clinic component includes primary and pediatric care, express care, dental and eye care, healthcare services for women, infants and children. The project will also house a new District Attorney’s Office and the Health Services Agency will occupy the building. The multi-purpose conference room can also serve as a temporary Emergency Response Center. The project includes a number of key features for sustainability including a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) structure, all-electric building systems and solar photovoltaic with a battery backup system.

Shen Milsom and Wilke’s (SM&W) acoustical contribution covered all aspects of the project. SM&W coordinated with the architecture and structural teams to evaluate options and coordinate details. SM&W also provided input on building mechanical, engineering, and plumbing (MEP) systems to ensure equipment noise levels inside the building and at the neighboring properties met project goals. A key piece of this coordination was coordinating the MEP noise control design with the CLT roof structure as this structural type is inherently lightweight. A study of site noise exposure from the adjacent roads was carried out to define minimum acoustic performance for the façade to meet CalGreen code requirements.
