SM&W Contribution
Located on the University of Maryland’s main campus in College Park, the Physical Sciences Complex encompasses research and teaching laboratories, conference rooms, offices, lounges and support spaces. The complex’s red and white elliptical glass cone extends from the landscaped plaza through the roof, creating its most visual and notable feature.
Our consultants provided infrastructure and cabling design, working with the design team to meet the school’s technology needs. The lower level physics laboratories could not tolerate any stray electronic signals, so these areas were cabled exclusively with fiber optic cables, while other laboratories were designed with a mix of fiber and copper cabling. Our acousticians were used for peer review purposes in order to control noise levels throughout the complex. The Physical Sciences Complex earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
