SM&W Contribution
RTA Architects teamed with SM&W and design-build partners, HOK and JE Dunn, to develop a program plan and design for a facility that integrates medical, research, performance, instruction and patient education into a 104,000 SF state-of-the-art center fulfilling one of the four Colorado Springs City for Champions projects. The program document and design were developed in close collaboration with project stakeholders which include University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) education departments, Penrose-St. Francis and Centura Health staff, and UCCS research and performance faculty to facilitate collaborative interaction among staff, students, researchers, physicians and professors.
The Hybl Center provides a unique multidisciplinary academic environment, with education and research opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students that combines academic instruction and clinical practice. Penrose-St. Francis operates clinics for a variety of medical practices, providing whole-person care. The new facility serves up to 1,400 students per day and includes office space for 45 faculty. Performance space were developed with operable exterior wall panels to connect indoor and outdoor performance areas on the site.
The Hybl Center was designed to meet USGBC LEED Gold standards.
