Tom Edge has been promoted to Senior Principal and has been with SM&W since 2008. As Washington, DC Office Director, he has built and led a dynamic team, delivering outstanding services to our regional clients. Tom has developed strong, long-standing relationships with both end-user clients and architectural partners, positioning SM&W as the leading technology and acoustical consulting firm in the DC market. His expertise in Audiovisual Systems consulting and design, along with his dedication to fostering a collaborative and results-driven office culture, has strengthened SM&W’s presence in the region. Tom’s leadership and client-focused approach have been instrumental in expanding the firm’s influence and ensuring the continued success of the DC office. He continues to mentor staff and enhance the firm’s capabilities.
Steven Sorrenti has been promoted to Senior Principal and has been an integral part of SM&W since 2004. His expertise spans engineering, project coordination, and BIM standards development across the fields of Physical Security, IT, and AV. He is responsible for the design and documentation of all aspects of physical security, including video surveillance, access control, biometrics, command centers, and electronic detection devices. Beyond his technical contributions, Steven has built strong, long-term client relationships that have led to continued business growth. A dedicated mentor to both junior and senior staff, he is known for taking on the most challenging projects with professionalism and determination, setting a high standard for leadership within the firm.
John Duke has been promoted to Principal and has been a key part of SM&W’s Chicago office since 2019. With nearly 20 years of experience in security design, Critical Infrastructure Protection, and project management, John has led projects across design, construction, commissioning, and regulatory compliance. His specialized expertise includes Composite Adversary Force and regulatory penetration vulnerability testing. As Operations Lead for the Chicago office, he plays an integral role in mentoring junior staff while continuing to manage large-scale, complex projects. His leadership and deep technical knowledge make him a trusted resource for both clients and colleagues.
Gideon Mahn has been promoted to Principal, bringing over 14 years of IT engineering experience to SM&W’s Washington, DC office, where he has been a key part of the team since 2021. Since 2023, he has served as Operations Lead of the DC office, playing a critical role in strengthening our multidisciplinary low-voltage design team. He is highly proficient in the design of fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure, IT rooms, video surveillance and access control systems, DAS, and AV systems. In addition to his technical expertise, Gideon leads QA/QC efforts in the DC office to ensure project documents meet SM&W’s high standards. In addition to his technical expertise, Gideon has served as an effective project manager, overseeing multi-discipline projects where he is the single point of contact for our clients, and completes the projects on time and on budget.
